My scathing review is for "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. It was my misfortune to listen to this book on audiobook. It had its fulll load of apocalyptic nonsense. But worst of all was this annoying, cloying little boy, who called his dad "Papa". Hard to stomach this novel. Maybe it was just the reader's voice whenever he said "Papa" that grated on me. After "The Road", I've given up on Cormac McCarthy.

I was one of those screaming girls that stood in line at midnight when Breaking Dawn came our, by the next day I had finished it, and I also felt that it was sloppily written.
This probably does have a twinge of proffesional jealousy though, I also am writer, and I don't think that Stephenie Meyer's books were all that great especially the ending one.
I agree with you.

With regard to the comment above, I admire her passion and conviction, but I didn't do the individual reviewing, so her criticism of the "scathing reviewers" is best pointed at the people who left the reviews at Amazon.com. AND, the entire idea of this site is that Bad Reviews, in and of themselves, can be pretty funny. Dark Hunter got a lot of good reviews too - go to Amazon and you'll see them, but I didn't post them here for the same reason I didn't post the good reviews of "Tom Sawyer" - its because the bad reviews are the funny ones.

As a standalone book written years ago, I can understand why you might think it's fluff & soft porn, as that's how everyone classifies all romance novels that doesn't actually read them. Most women who read them don't read them for sex scenes, for that we can look at porn like everyone else. We read them for the romance & couple drama & the escape, that's what novels are for. If you read the series, you'd understand why Sherrilyn Kenyon's fans are completely devoted. You've never seen an author do so much for the love of her fans. Her Dark Hunter series from the beginning until now, has evolved, just as her writing has, into this phenomenal, unique world, of amazing characters that we all love. You read what, 200 pages of the very first novel? Put it into perspective instead of picking out single dialogue comments! IT'S A ROMANCE NOVEL. The purpose of the book is about Julian & Grace falling in love, so if you're going to make dumb comments about something you know nothing about, then your comments should be about the romance between the two characters. The rest is story background. That's what this book is about. The first in a series. AND it's the prequel to the first book to be perfectly honest, it was meant to be a short, sweet introduction to the first book of the whole series. THIS is why reviews are so ignorant, & why I never read them, if you have to see someone else's opinion of something before you can make up your own mind, you don't have much of a mind of your own.

Comment on Scathing Book Reviews of The World Is Flat by Thomas Friedman by concerned citizen

I would strongly recommend the most hilarious review I have read on "The world is flat" -
Flathead: The peculiar genius of Thomas L. Friedman
Review by Matt Taibbi, New York Press
http://nypress.com/print.cfm?content_id=12841

And another recommendation would be a small, but interesting book, by Aronica and Ramdoo, "The World is Flat? A Critical Analysis of Thomas Friedman's New York Times Bestseller," which offers a counterperspective to Friedman's theory on globalization.

It is a small book compared to the 600 page tome by Friedman, and aimed at the common man and students alike. As popular as the book may be, some reviewers assert that by what it leaves out, Friedman's book is dangerous. The authors point to the fact that there isn't a single table or data footnote in Friedman's entire book.

"Globalization is the greatest reorganization of the world since the Industrial Revolution," says Aronica. Aronica and Ramdoo conclude by listing over twenty action items that point the way forward, and they provide a comprehensive, yet concise, framework for understanding the critical issues of globalization.

You may want to see www.mkpress.com/flat
and watch www.mkpress.com/flatoverview.html
for an interesting counterperspective on Friedman's
"The World is Flat".

Also a really interesting 6 min wake-up call: Shift Happens! www.mkpress.com/ShiftExtreme.html

There is also a companion book listed: Extreme Competition: Innovation and the Great 21st Century Business Reformation
